Robert Pitts Death, Obituary – The tragic rollover accident on Highway 169 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that claimed the life of 50-year-old Robert Pitts has been confirmed by Tulsa Police. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, causing significant traffic disruption and raising concerns about road safety. Here’s what we know about the incident.

The Incident: Tire Blowout Leads to Fatal Crash

According to reports from Tulsa Police, Robert Pitts was driving his truck northbound on Highway 169 when a sudden mechanical failure caused the accident. It is believed that a tire blowout was responsible for the crash, leading Pitts’ vehicle to lose control.

The truck, carrying rocks, swerved across the lanes before overturning between Apache and 36th Street North around 3 p.m. The fuel tank burst upon impact, setting the vehicle ablaze.

Fire and Fatality at the Scene

Robert Pitts was tragically trapped inside the truck as it caught fire, leading to his death at the scene. Emergency crews arrived but were unable to extract him in time. According to Capt. Richard Meulenberg of the Tulsa Police, the truck rolled for about 100 yards, scattering debris across both sides of the highway. “The mechanical issue occurred over a long distance,” Meulenberg explained, highlighting the severity of the crash.

 Traffic Disruption and Cleanup Efforts

Highway 169 was shut down for more than six hours as police investigated the scene and cleared the debris. The accident resulted in widespread traffic delays, with drivers being advised to avoid the area.

Meulenberg praised the other drivers on the highway for their quick thinking and response. “Drivers were paying attention today, and they stopped when they noticed the situation unfolding. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved,” he said.

 Mechanical Failure Under Investigation

While the initial belief is that a tire blowout caused the accident, investigators are still working to determine the exact cause. “We’re not sure if it was a blowout or some other mechanical failure, but the investigation is ongoing,” Meulenberg stated. This tragic incident has left the community mourning the loss of Robert Pitts, a resident of Tulsa, while also serving as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by unexpected vehicle malfunctions.
