Marjorie McGennis Death, Obituary – It is with great sadness that the community of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, mourns the loss of Marjorie “Beep” Loyce (Erwin) McGennis, who passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 83. A beloved figure, Beep was known for her warm personality, dedication to her family, and her active involvement in the local community. Born on January 22, 1941, in Posey County, Indiana, Beep was the daughter of Elisha and Elsie Erwin. She grew up in a close-knit farming family and continued that tradition throughout her life as a farm wife.
In addition to her work on the farm, she served as a custodian for the Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon, where she became a familiar and cherished face to students and staff. Beep was also an active member of the Extension Homemakers Club, where she served on the Extension Board and contributed to the community through her work on the 4-H Council. As a leader of the Victory Bees, she was dedicated to shaping the lives of young people for many years. Her involvement with First Christian Church and the Eastern Star further highlighted her commitment to her faith and community.
Above all, Beep was known for her love of family. She took great pride in being a devoted Nana, a role she cherished more than anything. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love. Beep is preceded in death by her husband, Allen “Bump” McGennis, along with several close family members, including her twin sister Joyce “Josh” Davis. Her loss is felt deeply by her surviving family and the countless lives she touched in Mt. Vernon. As the community remembers her, Marjorie “Beep” McGennis will be celebrated for her contributions to both her family and her hometown, ensuring that her memory lives on in the hearts of many.
